I’ve been shopping again…

Despite the ever-growing backlog of models on my desk, and in boxes and in drawers and in the roof… oh dear don’t tell the wife, I have been on eBay again. This time I snapped up an army, not just a couple of models but a whole army, for Lord of the Rings. This isn’t my only new army however, let me step back a few days.

My wife is an ex-wargamer. In our younger years we both played wargames and even first met in GW Lincoln (back in the hallowed days of Barnes and Daz, I guess I should admit to vaguely remembering Craig…). She has since quit wargaming and focuses on her artwork and jewellery making over at Scarlet Impressions and I’ve inherited boxes of “stuff”. In one such box was a large selection of plastic High Elves, a few metal elves with spears and metal Elrond and Arwen.

After a quick chat with MRO he very kindly produced a bag of plastic high elves and a selection of heroes to complete the force. After handing over a token payment and the promise of me actually paying for the food one day I stole them away and have been putting them together. I now have the makings of a rather nice High Elf army with roughly 1500 points of models to choose from. There are a few things missing that I’ll be slowly looking to rectify, such as Elladan and Ellrohir on horses, but for now converting the rather static models into more interesting poses is the order of business.

So back to the army I bought. I got my hands on an Arnor army (or possibly Grey Company) with lots of plastic rangers, 5 metal rangers and a metal Aragorn (I have lots of metal Aragorns I was missing this one). Now I’m aware that thanks to the warband system that this doesn’t really make much of an army (only 1 hero – a very costly one at that) so I’ll be looking to snap up or convert a few heroes such as Malbeth, Arathorn and Halbarad. I have a couple of the newer plastic Aragorn models which I will most likely turn into Captains of Arnor since I’m not short of Aragorn models (I know this is an Arnor-based post but I’m getting really tired of typing Aragorn now!).

So, 2 new armies. This brings my current army count for Lord of the Rings to 5 (possibly 6 as I can probably put together a White Council force too), or which one 1 is evil… I really must get these ones painted up before someone tempts me with something like Harad or Easterlings! On that note I’ll leave you now and start hiding all these models from my wife!
